L.A.S.I.K. (Laser Assisted in-Situ Keratomileusis)

Who is an ideal candidate?
An ideal Candidate for surgery is someone who is at least 18 years of age, and has healthy eyes and adequate corneal tissue. Candidates must not have any significant changes in their prescription within the last 24 months. Some patients with certain medical conditions or women who are pregnant may not be good candidates at the time. Your doctor will assess your eye health, and history, and visual goals to determine if you meet all the criteria.

Procedures in a complete Lasik evaluation

  1. Initial eye exam and evaluation appointed at our Optometry office.
  2. A visit to the surgery clinic is scheduled where Orbscans will be taken to determine corneal integrity and thickness.
  3. One more visit to our Optometry office to answer remaining questions, and then if you are ready, schedule surgery.
  4. The curvature of our corneas are 60% responsible for how light will focus once light passes through our cornea.  Our goal is to have our cornea focus light onto our retina.  The shape of the cornea can be changed with an excimer laser.  No laser or instrument will actually penetrate into the eye globe itself.  It is completely a surface procedure, which is why it heals so fast.
  5. Steps
bulletA thin corneal flap is created with a microkeratome that is about 160 microns thick.
bulletThe flap is lifted back to expose the tissue underneath by the surgeon.
bulletThe laser is applied on the tissue for a short amount of time determined by your prescription.
bulletThe flap is smoothed back over.
bulletThe procedure takes less than 15 minutes for both eyes.

VI.  Post-op visits for a year to ensure that everything is healing well and that vision is good.

L.A.S.I.K. Consulting:

We do consulting with one of the most networked Lasik companies in the area and have helped many people achieve their expected outcomes.  We do not do the Lasik procedure onsite, but instead we help determine if Lasik is right for someone and then manage their after care.

To have a successful outcome, a person must know why they are getting LASIK and how they are going to get it, and that is where the management begins.  The procedure itself only takes 30 seconds of Laser time per eye (approx for a -2.00 D prescription).  Please take advantage of our consultation with our Optometrist.  Dr. Han's purpose is to help inform his patients on their options, regardless if he will be participating in the post operative care or not.  Please let us know when making an consultation appointment only  (no testing involved) versus eye exam appointment (tests involved).  It would only take about 15 minutes to talk about Lasik.

In the Forefront of Ophthalmology - Since the FDA approval of the excimer laser in 1995, Drs. Cooper and Meister have performed thousands of laser vision correction procedures in the U.S. They have been co-medical directors and partners of Pacific Laser Eye Center since 1996, where they perform laser vision correction and other refractive procedures.

At Pacific Laser Eye Center, our surgeons perform LASIK almost exclusively over other procedures due to its rapid visual recovery, greater predictability, and minimal postoperative discomfort. Both Dr. Meister and Dr. Cooper were among the first surgeons in Sacramento to be trained to perform the Intacs surgery. Intacs are intrastromal corneal ring implants, which are the newest method for the reversible treatment of low levels of nearsightedness. Both surgeons are also among the first to be trained in the Surgical Reversal of Presbyopia (SRP) procedure. SRP utilizes implants to eliminate the need for bifocals or reading glasses. Dr. Meister has also been selected to be among the first to use the intraocular phakic contact lens implants, which will soon be approved by the FDA for treating high amounts of nearsightedness. Dr. Meister will be performing these procedures out of the country until there is FDA approval.

Drs. Cooper and Meister have also performed laser vision correction surgery on a number of well-known community members including: Dave Walker of Channel 3 News, radio personality Joey Mitchell, Grant Napear (the Voice of the Sacramento Kings), Warren Armstrong of Fox 40 News, Stan Atkinson of Channel 10 News, Jerry Reynolds of the Sacramento Kings, radio personality Susan Miller, Sharon Ito of Channel 10 News, former San Francisco Giants pitcher Jim Barr, and Sacramento District Attorney Jan Sculley.

Over 140 local eye doctors throughout Northern California refer their patients to Drs. Cooper and Meister for refractive procedures.
